How is it already the end of January?! Something tells me weāre going to have to be very efficient with our time this year because itās already moving faaaaast!
And with that⦠hereās your meme from this weekā¦

Weekend Forecast: Highās in the 70s again FINALLY. Phew. I canāt wait for summer. Okay so whatās happening this weekend? Kevin Hart, Kevin Hart afterparties, a coffee club with (checks paper) 794 RSVPs?! (I hear they are capping it at 800ā¦) an 80ās Aspen themed party, a free crawfish boil⦠these are just some of the awesome things happening this weekend. Check out the full event list below. āØ

Best thing we ate this week⦠Oko has been on my list of restaurants that I have wanted to try since it opened up a few months ago, last night we finally got to check it out. It is one of Paul Quiās new projects (alongside other favorites of ours like Thai Kun and East Side King) so we knew it was going to be top notch.
Itās located on East 6th in a familiar place (RIP Ah Sing Den), but theyāve elevated the interior of the space a bit and the vibes are immaculate as expected. The star of the show is the food though. We ordered the crispy chicken skin chicharrones, the crispy braised pork belly, the chicken wings, and the oxtail kare-kare. Holy wow this place blew my mind. Filipino food is not something I have a lot of experience with, so many of the flavors were very different than I am used to and I had a lot of fun with it. Kiana had a glass of the Head High skin contact wine, I had the Umaga (toasted rice washed whiskey with chai spice and milk foam) and both were perfect compliments to the explosions of flavor that were hitting the table. I highly suggest you get on over to Oko and try it out.
Props to Chef Harold Villarosa. Absolutely crushing it.

Most fun we had this week⦠We featured This is Mesmerize a few weeks ago in the new business we want to try section, and finally ventured over there to see what all the fuss was about on Instagram. Located behind some car dealerships off of I35, itās hidden away and you would never find it without google maps. Itās DEFINTELY giving Mini-Meow Wolf vibes. Itās a small but vibrant space full of psychedelic dream-like art installations that take you to another realm. In a city that could use more art galleries this is a welcome addition, but I do wish it was just a bit bigger. I think the coolest way to experience this spot would be at one of the events hosted there (they had a cocktail mixer a few weeks ago) so keep an eye out for happenings.

This is Mesmerize
New Business that we want to try⦠Tancho is a new omakase sushi spot and the general consensus seems to be that itās a legit high quality Sugarfish Dupe. If you donāt know what Sugarfish is, itās a California sushi spot that is all the rage out there. The presentation and quality at Tancho looks on point, and itās right off of Southwest Parkway in SW Austin. Weāll update soon once we have given it a try!
