Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s Valentines Day! 💘🪽 Whether you’ve got a Valentine or not, I encourage you to lead your day with love!
You don’t need to have a special someone to celebrate today, whether it is in interactions with friends, family, a stranger, or even just showing yourself some extra love, there a million ways to spread some love out there in the world.
Remember love is more than a feeling, it’s a way of being.
And with that here’s your meme for this week…
Weekend Forecast: Love is in the air! So many Valentines events, comedy shows, DJ sets, and you guessed it… more coffee clubs! 😂 Make sure to get out and enjoy the 75 degree weather tomorrow before we’re back in the 20s next week! 🥶
Best thing we ate this week… On Wednesday I saw a few posts featuring mouth watering Peking ducks on Instagram throughout the day, but I squashed the craving because most of the places that serve them were closed by the time we were headed to dinner, or were all the way across town. Instead I settled on Mexican food and we were almost to the destination near our place when I noticed a sign that said Ling Wu on a restaurant I hadn’t noticed before.
We pulled into the lot to check the menu and were blown away by how delicious it all sounded. Abandoning the idea for Mexican food we ventured into Ling Wu and were shocked by how stunning it was. Chinese lamps lined the ceiling, bottles of wine filled nearly every wall and shelf. Okay, we must’ve found something pretty special here.
We proceeded to order egg drop soup, crab and corn soup, spicy Szechuan cucumbers, an order of beef potstickers, an order of gluten free crispy dumplings, and the half Peking duck. They coursed out the meal perfectly, and everything was prepared and presented so beautifully. This was no doubt the best Chinese food I have had in Austin. It’s on the pricey side, but it was sooo worth it. Turns out they have a location in South Austin (the one we went to) and they also have a location up at the Grove on 45th street and Bull Creek, and a handful of other restaurants in town like Qi, Lin Asian Bar + Dim Sum, and Ling Kitchen. With how incredible this place was, I now have to try all of their other restaurants as well, and I recommend you do too! 🤝🏼
Ling Wu
Most fun we had this week… Last night my little sisters (who is also a badass drummer) all girl punk band (@whoarethepinkyrings) played at Hotel Vegas for the first time in awhile. They’re an absolute riot, and if you like heavy punk and supporting an all girls rock n roll band, you definitely need to keep an eye out for the next show. They don’t play as often these days, so when they do they draw a nice crowd, and last night was no different.
If you haven’t been to Hotel Vegas, it’s one of the most notorious live music bars on the East Side, hosting psychedelic rock bands, metal bands, punk bands, and all types of local musical groups. With SXSW coming up here in a few weeks, this will be one of the premier spots to spend time as they always have some killer showcases and dozens upon dozens of bands, with some pretty well known acts typically headlining.

New Business that we want to try… Radio Coffee is an Austin institution as far as coffee shops go in town, and they just opened up their newest location Radio Rosewood. Over on the buzzing East 11th St, the location will follow the same model, a WiFi friendly coffee shop, slanging coffee, espresso drinks, cocktails, and food. The difference is that this location won’t have food trucks, instead Shortwave Diner (they make a mean smash burger) will get their first “brick and mortar” location. The new location opened up this past Wednesday (Feb. 12th) so if you’re looking for a brand new space to grab some coffee and vibe out this weekend, go check out the new Radio Rosewood!
