(Pro tip: it’s not about having a wristband. A lot of SXSW is finessing your way into rooms that you want to be in, acting like you should be there, asking for access, and networking to open doors that would otherwise be closed to you… treat it like a video game and you’ll have a lot more fun) 

And with that… here’s your meme for this week…

Best thing we ate this week… I featured Toasty Badger in the new business we want to try section about a year ago, and I am pretty annoyed with myself for waiting until this week to try it. It’s owned and operated by Los Lobos Hospitality, the same folks behind Manny’s Sandwich Shop and Powder Room. 

It’s a 1970s-style diner that serves brunch and lunch until 4 pm each day, and it rocked my socks off with how well-executed it was. Kiana had the special pancakes (carrot cake pancakes with caramelized brown sugar and cream cheese icing) and fried eggs. I had the biscuits and gravy and the French toast sticks with banana dulce drizzle on top, and we both had a side of hash browns because they looked so good on the tables around us! To sip, I had an insanely spicy Bloody Mary, and even though I have some serious tolerance for heat, this one had me mouth breathing. 

Overall, this was one of the most delicious brunches I’ve had in this city. I highly recommend it, and will make sure to take my friends from out of town here when they come to visit.

New Business that we want to try… NYC’s beloved cocktail-dive bar, Mother’s Ruin, is bringing its late-night magic to East 6th, opening March 7—just in time for SXSW. Known for killer drinks, solid bar food, and never closing, it’s already a hit in New York, Nashville, and Chicago.

Expect a full menu ‘til last call (2 AM daily), brunch every day ‘til 4 PM, and cocktails with names like “Cybercuck” and “Emergency Confetti.” Oh, and they’re calling breakfast tacos “breakfast burritos,” but we’ll let that slide for now…
