Happy Friday ATX! š¤ Itās National Tell A Lie Day! What a weird holiday š¤
Thereās absolutely nothing happening in Austin this weekend.
Okay just kidding that was a lie. š
Also, the results of last weeks poll were overwhelming. You guys want a Friday evening rooftop happy hour while the sun is setting. That sounds epic so weāre going to make it happen. šš¹
Stay tuned for us to announce the date, but itās looking like it will be either May 9th or May 16th.
Now letās jump into it! Hereās your meme for this week!

Weekend Forecast: Rainy, cloudy, and wet. Even so, there are plenty of fun things to do this weekend. Austin Kite Fest (pending weather), Et Al by NYC company Sights & Sounds at DMC, Puppy Yoga, and Crawfish Fest at Lil Easy are some of our favorites! Best thing we ate this week⦠We featured Loro awhile back, but they celebrated their 7th anniversary this past week and had a different special every day. On Wednesday it was all-day happy hour, so I figured it is the perfect time to feature their amazing happy hour.
If you havenāt been to Loro yet, you have to go. Itās seriously one of our favorite restaurants in town and has been for the entire 7 years itās been around. I take all of our out-of-town visitors here, and it always gets a great reaction.
Think Texas BBQ meets Asian cuisine. We had the smoked shisito queso with brisket, the smoked wings, the chicken karaages (not a happy hour dish, but you canāt go to Loro without ordering it), and the sesame rice noodles. The shisito queso with brisket is a new menu item that was added since the last time we went, and it was the best queso Iāve had in my entire life.
All of their frozen cocktails are amazing too, I love the Frozen G&T and get it every time we go!
Pro tip: this is the best time of year to go to Loro because they have a sprawling outdoor seating area that makes it perfect for enjoying our small window of spring weather!

Loro
Most fun we had this week⦠Oaxacan and Japanese influences come together at Trona to create one of the better speakeasy experiences I have had in Austin. The entrance is hidden in the alley with a huge metal door, and you must ring a doorbell to enter.
The sexy, dimly lit bar focuses heavily on Mezcal and Japanese Whisky, and these bartenders were crafting some seriously delicious cocktails.
The Oaxacan Old Fashioned was a mezcal-heavy twist on one of my favorite drinks, and it went down almost too smoothly for an old fashioned. Kiana had a beautiful drink called the Shanshiro that was so delicate and feminine. I told the bartender I wanted another mezcal forward cocktail as my second drink, so he made me an off-menu cocktail that had palo santo, mezcal, and some other secret ingredients, and all I hope is that he remembers what it is so I can order it again next time! He also made Kiana some sort of strawberry mocktail that was off-menu and it was delightful.
If youāre looking for an elevated cocktail experience to take a date or catch up with a friend, Trona is an awesome choice.
Pro tip: They take walk-ins Monday and Tuesday, but recommend reservations Wednesday through Friday!

Trona
New Business that we want to try⦠Bar Hacienda is a speakeasy that just opened up in the basement of Tiger Lilly (formerly Estelle's) on 4th Street. They say theyāre ābringing a tropical twist and just the right amount of bad behavior.ā
Weāll go soon and report back with just how badly behaved they are lol.
