Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 Edition #67

So many heavy hitters! šŸŽ¶šŸŖ©šŸŽø

Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s National Arbor Day! Take a look at the Treefolks volunteer page and maybe sign up to volunteer with an organization that has planted over 3 million trees in Central Texas!

Lately I’ve been talking to a lot of strangers and making so many new friends and I just want to remind you to get out of the box and meet new people when you’re out on the town.

Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation and ask people about themselves. You’ll make new friends, open new doors, and expose yourself to more opportunities and awesome people!

Life is so much more interesting this way. Trust me.

Now let’s jump into things! Here’s your meme for this week!

Weekend Forecast: This week has had so many heavy hitters come through to perform and this weekend is no different. Austin Psych Fest, Rufus Du Sol, and Jack Ingram and Miranda Lambert, all in the next 48 hours. This. Is. Why. We. Live. Here. šŸŽ¶šŸŽøšŸŽ¹

Best thing we ate this week… I stuffed my face at Thunderchief this week inside of the South Lamar location of Lavaca Street Bar. I’ve followed them on Instagram for quite some time and everything looks delicious so I figured I’d go check it out for myself. I tried the double wagyu smash burger, the tea-brined wings, and the curly fries. Was that a ton of food? Yes. Enough to make me go home and take a nap afterwards, but it was my only meal of the day yesterday so I guess it counts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

The burger was wild, it’s a wagyu smash burger cooked so hot that it had a pretty intense char flavor on the outside, it wasn’t overcooked but it was pretty different than many of the other smash burgers I’ve had in my life. It’s definitely different and worth a try. The combination of the smashed patties, burger sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese created an awesome blend of flavors and I’ll definitely go back for another one of these in the future. Now to the tea brined wings, they were crispy and delicious, and the Nashville XXX flavor had a nice kick, but the spice didn’t compare to ordering the hottest flavor at some of the wing-specific spots in town. And last but not least the curly fries, they’re curly fries. What’s not to love about them?

Thunderchief isn’t far from where I live, and I’m sure I’ll end up back here in the not too distant future to try some of their other offerings like the K-Pop Nachos and the Birria Taco.

Pro tip: Smash burgers are $5 on Mondays, and wings are $1 on Wednesdays!

Most fun we had this week… I got to attend the first of 3 sold out nights of LCD Soundsystem at Emo’s on Tuesday night, and wow they blew my mind. The synths, the incredible drummer, and the eclectic front man James Murphy. They put on a fantastic show and Emo’s was a great venue for it. If you don’t know about Emo’s they started as a punk club in Houston in 1989 and soon after opened at 6th and Red River in Austin on April 24th, 1992, which means their 33rd anniversary in Austin was just yesterday.

It’s safe to say they’re an Austin institution, and while they left their original location in 2011, their current location on East Riverside is now overseen by Live Nation and is a site for prominent touring acts.

With all of the new glitzy venues opening up in Austin, it seems that sometimes people forget about good ole Emo’s. I think it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on their schedule and see who is coming through because who knows, maybe one of these days it’ll be one of your favorite artists!

New Business that we want to try… Parish Barbecue is a new food truck serving Texas-Style BBQ with influences from their Louisiana roots. They just recently opened a permanent location on March 22nd, and in addition to brisket and traditional Texas BBQ fixtures they’re also serving things like Muffuletta sandwiches and boudin! This place sounds like a match made in heaven because I am a native Texan who also has deep Louisiana Roots. Their operating hours are slim right now, but I will make it over there soon and report back!

This is a rare find in Austin’s Heritage District where timeless charm meets thoughtful modern design. This 3-bed, 2.5-bath home blends restored longleaf pine and polished concrete floors with soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass for a light-filled, open feel. The sleek chef’s kitchen includes custom cabinets, high-end appliances, and a sunny breakfast nook overlooking the park-like backyard. A modern two-story addition houses a private primary suite with a spa-style bath and large walk-in closet. Outside, the classic front porch and oversized backyard offer endless potential, think pool, guest house, or garage.
