Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s National Creativity Day! If you needed a sign to get creative, here’s your sign!
Almost everything you interact with on a daily basis is created from an idea that a fellow human had.
It could be as simple as a nail, or as complex as an iPhone or a car.
Our reality is shaped by the creations of fellow humans… Ideas from peoples minds can literally be manifested into reality.
For better or for worse, some of the biggest monumental shifts humanity has experienced have come from ideas that were brought from a humans mind, into the physical realm.

Weekend Forecast: A Grateful Dead tribute concert, La Volta Pizza party vol. 4, and at least 3 anniversary parties for some of our favorite spots this weekend! Who knows what the recent bipolar weather will bring, hellacious heat, or torrential downpours, either way we’ll be out there having a great time! ☀️⛈️
Best thing we ate this week… Last Friday I finally made it to HEB in a Friday evening to try their beef dino rib that is only sold Friday after 5pm until sold out. I’m 100% convinced there’s not a better BBQ deal in Austin. We paid $70 for the Leroy and Lewis beef rib I posted about on my birthday a few weeks back. The beef rib I got at HEB was a much bigger rib and was 80% as good as the L&L rib, for less than 50% of the price. The plate with 2 sides is $35 bucks total, $30 for just the rib. I had the Serrano cornbread and the brisket beans as sides and both were delicious. I think the quality and quantity that you get for the price will leave you nothing short of shocked. Skip Terry Blacks and take your out of town friends to True Texas BBQ at the new HEB SoCo location on Friday evening, then use the money you saved to buy a whole round of drinks! 🤷🏻♂️
$30 Beef Rib HEB
Most fun we had this week… The best part of my week this week was taking a yoga class at MVP SoCo. My Vinyasa Practice is a donation based yoga studio. The space is beautiful, the teachers are skilled, and the fact that you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg to drop in and get some movement in is a huge win. Bonus points if you take Kiana’s class, her playlists are ethereal and take you on a whole journey while you flow.

New Business that we want to try… The team behind Underdog is back with something totally new. Le Calamar just opened on South 1st, and it’s French-ish in theory, Texan in execution. One dish has trout, almondine sauce, and salsa macha. Another is a French dip inspired by birria. And they’ve got this dessert called Baked Texas that sounds like a sugar coma that we are fully ready for.
The wine list leans funky and natural, with bottles from small producers in France, Mexico, and right here in Texas. Oh, and the name? A tribute to the owner's dog, Squid.
