Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 Edition #74

Check out our list of the best things to do in Austin this weekend! 🎶🪩☀️

Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s the Summer Solstice! Yeah, it’s felt like summer in Austin for the past 50ish days, but now its officially summer! Yeehaw ☀️

Let’s make this summer the best one yet.

I challenge you to say yes to everything for the next 2 months.

Someone invites you to a workout? Yes.

Someone invites you to a concert? Yes.

Someone invites you to a comedy show? Yes.

You get the point. Just start saying yes to more stuff.

I might be talking to myself… but hopefully some of you need to hear it too!

Anyways let’s jump into things! Here’s your meme for this week!

Weekend Forecast: This weekend is exactly what you’d expect the first official weekend of summer to look like! Pool parties, sunset DJ sets, outdoor concerts, weird FYRE festival clones, all night dance parties, top tier comedy (Nikki Glaser is in town!) This weekend has it all, with some perfect summer weather to match. 🌞

Best thing we ate this week… We went to an OG Austin spot that I hadn’t been to in awhile, and it was better than I remembered! Matts El Rancho has been around since 1952, and has a cult-like fanbase of people who eat there religiously. I remembered the food being good, but not anything too amazing or creative. We went a few nights ago and I was pleasantly surprised because everything was much better than I remembered. The brisket flautas were great, and the pecan smoked brisket was very different than the post oak smoked brisket being served at most of the top BBQ places in central Texas–and I really enjoyed it. The bob armstrong dip (queso with ground beef and guac) was delicious as always. Kiana’s chicken enchiladas were above average with a fantastic tomatillo sauce. It’s standard Tex-Mex stuff, just very well executed.

I get why people love this place, and as Chuy’s has expanded and become more of a chain, I think Matts is my new go-to.

Pro tip: order the Mexican Martini, they’re delicious and like 4 drinks in 1.

Most fun we had this week… Kiana had her first IYKYK DJ set at the East Austin rooftop bar that sits atop Inn Cahoots last Friday and we had waaaay too much fun. If you haven’t been to IYKYK before, it’s undoubtably East Austin’s best rooftop bar. Her set was 7-10p, and the bar faces west so the sunset/blue hour vibes were incredible. Her next DJ set there is NEXT Saturday June 28th, 7-10p, so come out, dance, and start the night with great cocktails and beautiful sunset views.

New Business that we want to try… Smoke Break opens today (June 20!) and is taking over Salty Sow’s patio for lunch every Friday through Sunday, 11-3p. It’s a new barbecue collab from Waylon J’s and Salty Sow, think prime brisket, smoked turkey, pork belly with whiskey maple mop, plus frozen old fashioneds to keep things cool. Order at the counter, kick back on the patio, and soak it in before everyone finds out.
