Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s National Tropical Fruit Day! 🥭🍍 Tropical fruits are my favorite, so I might have to go get something like the Wild Child from Juiceland to get my fix!
Lately I have been on a creative kick, making tons of music, and shifting the balance of consumption and creation far more towards creation and it feels freakin’ awesome.
Just a reminder… in a world of relentless consumption, to create something is almost an act of rebellion.
It’s also one of the coolest things you can do… to take something that doesn’t exist and craft it into existence… what a cool thing.

Weekend Forecast: Going to shamelessly plug the things that Kiana and I have going on this weekend here… My band Southwest Son just released our first single last night and it is on Spotify as of this morning! Our release party is tonight at Austin Garden 9-midnight. It will be a party! Tomorrow night Kiana is DJing the IYKYK rooftop during sunset from 7-10 and it will be a vibe with some of the best sunset views the city has on offer. 🎸🎧
Best thing we ate this week… We just had Daymaker Cafe this morning for the first time, hence the late newsletter… but it was AMAZING! Daymaker is the newest concept from the group behind Jack Allen's Kitchen and Salt Traders, and it might be my new favorite out of the trio. Kiana had the Lone Star diner hash with smoked pastrami, and I had the biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs and slab bacon. The biscuits were soooo fluffy and rich, the slab bacon had a candied glaze on it, and Kiana's hash was out of this world. I regret sleeping on this place for so long! They also have a little coffee shop in the front where you can just pop in and grab a drink if you’re on the go!
Daymaker Cafe
Most fun we had this week… We went wake surfing on Lake Austin yesterday! For not being a coastal city, Austin’s proximity to water is impressive and is one of its best attributes. The system from LBJ, Lake Travis, Lake Austin, and then finally Town Lake (or Ladybird for the newbies) provides for so much recreation. And that’s not even mentioning Barton Springs. When we lived out in Denver for a few years, I missed Austin’s water so dearly. There are a ton of ways to get out on the lake, from having friends with boats, or friends of friends with boats, to renting at one of the many rental spots on any of the aforementioned lakes. If you haven’t done many board sports before, it can be challenging at first to get the mechanics down at first, but most people can get it in a handful of attempts, and once you do, and you find that flow state, it can be addicting!

New Business that we want to try… There’s a new spot called East End Ballroom that caught my eye on Instagram this week. They look to have recently opened up, and have food, drinks, and live music over on East 5th Street! I don’t have much knowledge on it yet but it looks like a hip spot. The aesthetic is cool, it’s in a lively part of the East Side, and I look forward to checking it out!
