Happy Friday ATX! 🤠 It’s National Kangaroo Awareness Day! I have no idea what that means but it sounds Australian so it’s probably pretty cool 🤷🏻♂️
Lately I have been sooo focused on music and furthering my career as a creative, and luckily I have a ton of support from friends and family. One of Kiana and I’s close friends Kaley actually wrote a segment for the newsletter about First Light Books awhile back and I loved it.
Well recently she moved to New York, but before she moved she was like us, always out on the town, doing fun things, trying new restaurants, and living it up in Austin. She recently told me she has a bunch of places that she wanted to share and asked if she could help write some segments for Happy Friday ATX, and even though she lives in the big apple now, I thought it would make sense to bring her in so she could share some of the things she misses about Austin. Think about it as a love letter to Austin from the perspective of someone who moved away. I think it’s an awesome perspective because when we moved to Denver a few years back, we gained such a huge appreciation for certain things in Austin that we no longer had access to. Kaley will be writing segments from time to time so consider this her formal introduction as a contributor to HFATX!
Anyways let’s jump into things! Here’s your meme for this week!
Best thing we ate this week… I always have a delightful time at Community Garden, it’s one of my favorite places where people can find genuine connection with each other while enjoying some delicious bites and wine. I frequent for lunch to grab their Turkey Pesto Sandwich but another sandwich worth mentioning is the Chicken Salad Sandwich, which sells out fast daily so if that is more your speed be sure to get there earlier. In the mornings they also have a full coffee set up from 9am-4pm Tuesday thru Sunday! One of their fall features is a spiced latte with a creamy burnt honey syrup. They cover all the bases here and recently rolled out evening small plates too and they’re really well executed. I enjoyed having their Prosciutto & Kettle Chips with their house made dill creme fraiche, prosciutto ribbons, & paprika oil. It paired super nicely with a skin contact wine. The wine selection overall is high quality and it won’t break the bank. But if wine isn’t for you they have a range of beverages and specialty teas like a Jasmin Lychee Shaken iced tea or even a Ube Latte. It’s not only a foodie spot though, every night of the week has an event happening and you can’t go wrong spending time there. Check out their Instagram for the what’s happening this week post. Most weekend nights they have a vinyl dj spinning. Wednesdays is doodle night and I have loved the creative moments I’ve had there with some wine in hand. I’ve had the chance to chat with the owner and he’s a really authentic guy who is often in the kitchen and even serving. Overall Community Garden this is one of my top places in Austin to chill, work, or vibe so don’t sleep on this one! - Kaley T.
